At these moments when the grain is forming and developing, it is time to place the traps for the drill bit.
The borer is an insect that attacks green and ripe coffee fruits, causing damage to the grain. This insect is black in color, has the size of the head of a pin and feeds on the fruit (seed) of the coffee tree. The female borer attacks the fruit through the navel, leaving until the seed. There it lays its eggs, from which the larvae that feed on the fruit are born.
For this reason, now is the time to set traps to combat it.
To prepare the traps, we use bleach or 1.5 liter plastic bottles of Refresco. We opened three holes and incorporated a dispenser with an attractive effect (3.4 parts methanol and ¼ part ethanol) for the insect. We add water at the bottom of the trap, so that once the drill enters the trap, it drowns.
We place them strategically between the coffee trees and in this way we ensure that the drill bit will be attracted and drown.
