Re-seeding
To develop this activity, we have organised it in the following way:
- Tracing. 3 people This consists of looking for coffee trees that have failed after pruning and dead plants over the years. To find out where to replant, a rope is taken and knots are tied at a distance of one metre at each end at a height of 20 cm. Once we follow the row with the rope, we will know where there is a knot and the plant is not found, then we mark with small stakes (made with the trunks from the pruning) to mark the points where the new plants will go.
- Preparation of stakes. 3 people We have taken the trunks from the rest of the pruning to make the stakes and we have painted them red on the top so that we can spot them quickly.
- Hole digging. 15 people Once we have marked with stakes where the new plants are going to go, we mark with picks (10 people) the holes with a depth of 40 cm. Next comes another brigade (5 people) to finish the hole with a distance of 30 cm wide by 30 cm long.
- Fertilizer application. 2 people With the holes already finished, growth fertilizer is applied (agricultural lime and phosphate), in this way we ensure good development throughout the growth stage.
- Chargers. 4 people This is the most difficult job we have in this activity. These people have to go with a bag with 35 plants to distribute them where the planters are. In some cases, access to the planters is very difficult. In this plot that we have started (Rebeca) there are parts that have a very abrupt topography.
- Sowers. 3 people This is the most responsible job in this activity. The success of the sowing depends on them, if we achieve a good sowing, we will obtain the first fruits after 3 years!!!!
The planter incorporates organic material into the hole and then introduces the plant, filling in the parts that have been left free between the hole and the new plant.
- Collector of plastic covers. 1 person When the sowers finish sowing, they leave the plastic cover on top of the stake, so that when the harvester comes, he can see it and carry out the harvest.
In the end we will use 31 people to carry out this activity. On the first day, we managed to plant 840 plants and on the second day 970 plants. Our calculations are made to sow 1200 plants per day. We hope to achieve this during the next week.
