This type of pruning is carried out with chainsaws, because in this way we achieve greater precision in cutting the trunk and greater speed. The chainsaws work hard for 8 hours a day and what we do after the working day is to carry out preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
We have created 2 brigades of 15 people each, which are distributed as follows:
1 Foreman
5 Specialists (chainsaws)
9 labourers to de-stem the cut trunks
It has been a week in which we have made very good progress and we have managed to prune 10 hectares, with a total of 50,000 coffee trees!!!
With this rhythm we think that we can finish pruning in 2 weeks, but we will still have to remove the trunks, as it is very laborious and time-consuming, we think that it will take 4 more weeks.
This pruning allows us to have production in 20 months, which means that we will not have the next theoretical harvest in November 2013. But in November of the following year, we will again have a harvest and a coffee tree with a lot of health and vigour.
When we carry out this type of Recepa pruning, we will obtain 5 years of maximum production and then we will carry out the same action again and so on. In this way we manage to maintain a stable production in each harvest. We can’t wait to see the first fruits of this first harvest!!!!
